How to Receive a Compliment

Next time when a friend or a stranger will compliment your earrings, don’t answer: “Oh, they’re on sale now at Mango for €15.” There’s no need to feel awkward, simply answer: “Thank you.” It’s a simple, but powerful phrase. If it just feel too short for you, you may add: “Thank you, that’s very kind of you,” or “Thank you, I appreciate the compliment.”

Our parents taught us to be humble, but by downplaying or rejecting the compliment, you might be doing more harm than good.

Body language is also very important, always smile and look giver in the eyes as you say: “Thank you.” Enjoy your moment. Avoid crossing your arms and too casual postures.

Don’t try to compliment the giver in return at the same time, it may feel artificial.
